Is a Georgian driving license legal and legitimate?

Yes, the Georgian driving license is 100% legal. Georgia is part of the Geneva and Vienna Conventions on Road Traffic, meaning the license is recognized in all countries that signed these conventions — which includes almost every country in the world. You must take and pass all exams in person at a Georgian traffic police station. There are no shortcuts or bribes involved. Any offer of a Georgian driving license without exams is a scam.

How fast can I get a driving license in Georgia?

A motorbike license can be obtained in as little as 1 week (after getting a residence permit). A car license typically takes 2–3 weeks. You need to pass a theory exam, a parking/training ground exam, and a city driving exam. The license card and IDP are printed on the same day you pass your final exam.

Since May 28, 2025, you need either a valid Georgian Residence Permit or proof of having spent more than 185 days in Georgia in the last 12 months to take the theory test. We help you obtain a residence permit as part of our service. You do NOT need to permanently live in Georgia — the residence permit process takes around 11 days to a few weeks.

Can I use a Georgian driving license in the EU?

For tourism and travel, yes — if you are not an EU resident. If you live in an EU country for more than 6 months, you cannot use the Georgian driving license in the EU without exchanging it first. Some EU countries allow exchange without exams, including Ireland, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. If you are moving to the EU, check whether your new country accepts the Georgian license for exchange before becoming a resident.
